1. In a town of witches there is a ritual once every 10 years to keep the town prosperous
2. A human is brought to the town to be sacrificed and the MC is chosen to guard him (due to their parents being killed by humans, making them angry and unwilling to free the human)
3. The witch and human bond anyways and the witch helps the human escape and they go to plead with the god who demanded the sacrifice
4. the "god" is actually a monster who eats humans. The witchhas to chose between saving the human and having to fight the monster or leaving the human to die in exchange for keeping the town safe and prosperous.
5. They kill the monster and return to the village and explain to the town what happened. The human is returned to its family and the witch gains a friend.
